Trouble Losing Weight? It Could Be In Your Genes!
Simple and Affordable DNA Test Can Help You Lose 2 ½ Times the Weight
By Brittany Stroud
Ever wondered why your friend could drop 15 pounds easily while you struggled to lose 5? Or why your sister did well on a low-fat diet while your best friend reached her weight loss goal on a low-carb/high-protein regimen?
The answer may lie in your genes. That’s right – your unique collection of cell “genotype” patterns visible in a DNA test – can provide crucial information in determining a diet that will lead to safe, natural and sustainable weight loss. Now for the first time, a simple cheek swab can give the consultants at Results Weight Loss the information they need to craft the most effective weight loss program specific to your individual DNA.
“We’ve always known that some weight loss programs work better for some people than others,” said Pamela Powderly, Results Weight Loss dietitian. “This test helps us to zero in on the most effective program for each client.”
In the privacy of a one-on-one session with a consultant, you will learn exactly how your body processes carbohydrates, fats and proteins and get an individualized program to help lose the weight and maintain it.
“Most Exciting” Development in Weight Loss History
“In this field, we have been looking for the key, that one link that truly identifies what kind of program will work best for a given client. What is effective for one individual doesn’t always work for another and until now, it’s been difficult to pinpoint exactly why,” says Dr. Kenneth Bisson, Results Weight Loss Medical Director. “This research into genotype patterns is the most exciting development that we have seen to date that assists us in understanding the individual’s unique weight loss issues.”
The weight loss test is a direct result of research which gave scientists insights into genetic variations and their influences on such health issues as heart health, bone health and certain cancers. And now, a diagnostic tool is available for weight management.
That tool can identify your specific genotype, providing key information about your unique genetic makeup and enabling you to develop a customized diet and exercise program that will optimize your chances of long-term success. Indeed, scientists report, that “genetic heterogeneity” may help explain why individuals respond differently to different diets.
Two and a Half Times More Weight Lost
The facts speak for themselves: the people who followed the program that was right for their genetic makeup lost two and a half times more weight than those who didn’t. And the health effects were equally startling, with similar findings for decreased triglycerides and increased high-density lipoproteins or HDL – the so-called “good cholesterol.”
More Information, More Success
“We are really excited about the development of this tool,” said Ms. Powderly, Results Weight Loss dietitian. “And making this available to our clients means they will have an easier time reaching their weight loss goals and maintaining that success over the long-term.”
In a clinical study on weight management, scientists learned that individuals who followed diets matched to their genotype showed statistically greater weight loss when compared to individuals on diets not matched to their unique genotypes.
The research was able to classify participants into three patterns: those who are more likely to respond to diets that are low fat, diets that are low in carbohydrates or diets balanced in macronutrients.
How does it work?
Collecting the sample is quick, easy and non-invasive. Make an appointment at any Results Weight Loss Center and a Results consultant will show you how to take two simple swabs of the lining of your cheek. The samples are sent to a recognized genetic testing lab for analysis.
Less than two weeks later, your test results will be in and your Results consultant, working with a Results Registered Dietician will create a weight loss program that is customized just for you. A licensed, board-certified genetic professional will also be available for consultation.
The test results include specific recommendations that can be used to optimize success and build a plan. That could include the right percentage of carbs, fat and protein for your body. When you’re ready, the test can also make recommendations related to what kind of exercise will pay off for you.
Confidentiality and accuracy take the highest priority at Results Weight Loss and at the state-of-the-art DNA testing laboratory they use. Client results are available only to the client, consultant and the Results registered dietician.
