GENETICALLY BASED WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMS

By Kenneth A Bisson, MD
Medical Director, Results Weight Loss

Do you wear the same size shoes as your neighbor? I’ll bet not. In fact, I’ll bet you and your neighbor are different in many ways. (Life would be pretty boring if we were all alike, I think.) If you and your neighbor were offered “one size fits all” shoes would you buy them? I didn’t think so!

Well, just like “one size fits all” shoes, many weight loss programs out there are suitable for very few individuals. You may notice at the bottom of their ads some fine print that says, “The results depicted are not typical”. I guess the manufacturer of “one size fits all” shoes would be required to warn potential customers “these shoes will not be comfortable for most users”. The idea of “one size fits all” for shoes is silly at best! When something is as personal as weight loss, it makes even less sense to try the “one size fits all” approach.
You have a better choice. Please let me explain…

Results Weight Loss is the first to offer a simple and non-invasive Genetic Test in our local centers and to create unique programs for each client using the proprietary OptiGen™ Weight Management Program. This allows us to offer you much greater success than you will get from the “one size fits all” weight loss programs. As Medical Director for Results Weight Loss, I’d like to help you understand the medical facts behind our OptiGen™ Weight Management Program.

First I must introduce a few nutritional basics; ones you will likely recognize. The source of the energy provided by our food is categorized into three fundamental classes – called Macronutrients. The three classes are Carbohydrate, Protein, and Fat. Each category of macronutrient has its own unique properties and serves its own unique purpose in maintaining a healthy condition.

We need to eat foods that provide a balance of macronutrients to stay healthy. The guidelines of the National Academy of Sciences suggests adults balance their intake of the macronutrients as follows:

Fat – 20-35%; Carbohydrate – 45-65%; Protein – 10-35%

You can see that there is a good deal of room within these ranges to balance the various macronutrients.

After decades of attempts by many, many people to perfect the “best” weight loss diet, science has now found that there is no such thing! In just the past two years, research has demonstrated that we are all unique in how we respond to the macronutrient balance of the foods we eat. Some of us work and feel better with the balance shifted to one end while others of us work and feel better with the balance shifted to the other end. I guess we should not be surprised to learn this. “One size fits all” rarely provides a good fit in any area of our lives.

Specific genes have now been identified that are associated with people who benefit from each of the various healthy balances of macronutrients. The recent research demonstrated that the subjects in weight loss studies lost 2 ½ times more weight when they were prescribed the eating plan with the optimal balance for their gene type.

Results Weight Loss responded to this research in two exciting ways. We now offer our clients the opportunity to obtain testing for their specific gene type. We have also created the OptiGen™ Weight Management Program with a different macronutrient balance - designed for each identified gene type. You can now obtain the benefits from the recent gene research at Results Weight Loss.

While we should have expected there would be differences among all of us, until now we did not have the test to measure the “best fit”. Today we have the ability to identify your gene type for maximal weight loss success. So now you can succeed like never before in ridding yourself of unhealthy excess weight.

Better yet, knowing your gene type should also help you succeed in keeping it off! Maintaining your ideal weight is the long-term key to better health. I expect future research will similarly demonstrate that using a program based on your genetic type will also enhance your success in maintaining your weight loss.

That is really worth celebrating. Now is your time for Results Weight Loss!
